Instagram's Meme Liason

Instagram decided to trim the meme fat a few weeks ago, deleting over 100 popular meme accounts that they believe "violated Instagram's terms and services." @memeextraordinaire was one of those accounts, which had accumulated 40 million followers and over $600,000 in revenue. The memers were upset over the surprise takedown and so were the fans, calling out Instagram for their surprise attack. Lil Nas X even chimed in asking, "why is instagram purging all the meme accounts? we deserve to exist too." Instagram answered with the creation of a new role to ease the tension: introducing Instagram's new Meme Liason. This new role for the Instagram team will be part strategic partnerships, part digital publishing, and all love for meme culture and its impact.
