Hey,

The news is in, hot off the CDC press. Masks aren’t needed if you’re fully vaccinated and outdoors. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a rise in ear injuries from people ripping them off their faces like slingshots. Or, in most states, if it feels like this announcement changed nothing. Closed mouth smile.

I’ve heard the phrase “vaxxed and waxed” being thrown around as the new catchphrase of summer. With the new tax deadline being pushed to May 17th, I’m really trying to get “taxed” in the mix there but it’s not catching on like I’d hoped.

The social obligations and accompanying anxieties are slowly piling up as the masks get tossed and the weddings get re-booked, while the family group chat blasts, “It’s perfect this time of year, come home.” Unless your family lives in Mykonos, it’s likely just “pretty solid” this time of year. Anyways, all of this is to say that you can still take things one day at a time, just like the CDC. Make "vaxxed and relaxed" your 2021 summer catchphrase.

Fondly,
Rachel aka @heyfreesamples

For Your Radar:

• Will.i.am really nailed the timing with the release of his new hyper-connected smart face mask (see photo above).

• I can still picture the carpet at Regal Cinemas in Wilmington, Delaware. It was nothing short of zany, yet one of many.

• Jesus turned water into wine, but Vegea turns wine into clothing. A real sustainability miracle.

• Since we're already thinking about wine, I'm intrigued by this not-wine-but-it-is-wine-spritzer, Piquette [courtesy of Vinohead].

• If you're a Harry Potter person (up, I just lost a few people), there is an official Harry Potter bookstore opening in NYC June 3rd. ⚡️

• Budlight is buying 100,000 sports tickets to give away this summer. Why is "sports tickets" so funny to me? Anyways, you could get some tickets.

• My hesitation towards Clubhouse grows weekly, especially when I see platforms like Racket emerge.

• Personally, I feel BEAT after a few back-to-back Google Hangout meetings. Here's what's happening to our brains.

• I am absolutely obsessed with Song Exploder on Netflix. It's so interesting to see the magical development process behind some of the world's biggest songs.

• DESIGN STUFF - if you need to make a digital app or website feel real, check out Craftwork. I am blown away at the number of resources on there.

• MUSIC STUFF - Railbird Music Festival in Kentucky. It's only in its 2nd year, but boy. It looks pretty great.

• SLEEP STUFF - I have to actively train my body to get up early. But there's a difference between getting up and "feeling energized." Here's how you can do both.

Blaze Brooks was one of the first "cool designer" follows I did on Instagram. He takes digital illustration to a whole new level, creating paper-like textures across his projects. Based in Brooklyn, he does a little bit of everything including branding, illustrations, interactive typography, and of course, dope t-shirt designs. Check out his site to understand what I mean.
